What is Biofeedback?

Biofeedback is a mind-body technique in which sensors attached to your body measure physiological responses — heart rate, muscle tension, skin conductance, brainwave activity, or breathing patterns — and feed that information back to you in real time via a computer screen.

By seeing your own physiological responses as they happen, you learn to recognize and voluntarily control them. Over time, this awareness translates into lasting improvements in stress reactivity, anxiety, pain, and overall wellbeing — without medication. Biofeedback is endorsed by the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB) and has decades of research behind it.

What We Help With

  • 1
    Reduce Anxiety
Learn to recognize and interrupt the physiological signs of anxiety before they escalate — giving you genuine control over your stress response.
  • 2
    Manage Chronic Stress
Develop lasting nervous system regulation skills that reduce the physical and emotional toll of chronic stress.
  • 3
    Treat Chronic Pain
Address the nervous system dysregulation underlying conditions such as headaches, TMJ, fibromyalgia, and chronic back pain.
  • 4
    Improve Sleep
Regulate the physiological arousal that prevents restful sleep, developing pre-sleep routines grounded in measurable data.
  • 5
    Enhance Performance
Used by athletes, executives, and performers to optimize focus, calm, and peak performance under pressure.
  • 6
    Complement Other Treatment
Biofeedback works powerfully alongside CBT, EMDR, DBT, and other therapeutic modalities.

Our Therapeutic Approaches

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Biofeedback
Trains coherent breathing to improve autonomic nervous system regulation — the most widely researched biofeedback modality.
EMG Biofeedback
Measures muscle tension to treat headaches, back pain, TMJ, and stress-related muscle disorders.
Neurofeedback (EEG)
Trains brainwave patterns to improve focus, reduce anxiety, and support ADHD, PTSD, and sleep disorders.
Thermal Biofeedback
Uses skin temperature as a measure of peripheral blood flow to treat migraines, Raynaud's, and anxiety.
Electrodermal Biofeedback (GSR)
Measures skin conductance as an index of sympathetic arousal to support anxiety and stress training.
Respiratory Biofeedback
Teaches optimal breathing patterns that promote calm and reduce physiological stress responses.

Who Can Benefit from Biofeedback?

Biofeedback is suited for anyone dealing with stress, anxiety, chronic pain, headaches, high blood pressure, ADHD, insomnia, or performance challenges. It is particularly valuable for people who prefer a non-medication approach, or who want to complement existing treatment.

Sessions are conducted by our biofeedback-certified therapists using clinical-grade equipment. Most clients notice measurable improvement within 8–12 sessions.

Biofeedback — FAQs

Yes. Biofeedback is completely non-invasive. Sensors are simply attached to the skin to measure physiological signals — nothing enters the body. It is safe for children, adults, and older adults.

Many clients notice improvements within the first few sessions. Most see significant, lasting change within 8–12 sessions. Neurofeedback for complex conditions may require more.

Yes. Neurofeedback (EEG biofeedback) has a solid evidence base for ADHD in children and adults, improving attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. It can be used as an alternative or complement to medication.

Coverage varies by provider and diagnosis. We recommend checking with your insurance company. We can provide documentation to support reimbursement claims.

Some forms of biofeedback — particularly HRV training — can be conducted with home equipment supported by telehealth guidance. We will advise on the best approach for your needs.
