Eating Disorder Treatment

Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions with complex biological, psychological, and social roots. They are among the most challenging — and most treatable — conditions we work with. Our approach goes beyond symptom management to address the underlying emotional dysregulation, distorted body image, trauma, and relational patterns that drive disordered eating.

We treat the full spectrum of eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder (BED), avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), and other specified feeding and eating disorders (OSFED). We work with adolescents and adults in individual therapy, and can coordinate care with dietitians and medical providers.

What We Help With

  • 1
    Interrupt Disordered Behaviors
Reduce and ultimately eliminate restriction, bingeing, purging, and other harmful eating behaviors through targeted clinical intervention.
  • 2
    Address Body Image
Develop a more balanced, compassionate relationship with your body — independent of weight, shape, or appearance.
  • 3
    Identify Emotional Triggers
Understand the emotional states, relational dynamics, and beliefs that drive disordered eating.
  • 4
    Build Distress Tolerance
Develop the ability to sit with difficult emotions without turning to food or restriction as a coping mechanism.
  • 5
    Heal Trauma
Address the underlying trauma, shame, or attachment wounds that often fuel eating disorder symptoms.
  • 6
    Restore Nutrition & Wellbeing
Support a return to a healthier relationship with food, nutrition, and physical self-care.

Our Therapeutic Approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E)
The enhanced CBT protocol specifically designed for eating disorders — highly effective across all ED diagnoses.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Targets emotional dysregulation as a core driver of disordered eating through practical skill-building.
Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)
Reduces food fears, avoidance, and rituals through graduated, supported exposure.
EMDR
Processes trauma and negative body-based beliefs that maintain eating disorder symptoms.

Coordinated Care

Eating disorder recovery often requires a multidisciplinary team. We work collaboratively with dietitians, medical doctors, and psychiatrists to ensure all aspects of recovery are supported.

We treat clients at all levels of care — from mild disordered eating to moderate eating disorder symptoms. Clients requiring intensive outpatient or residential levels of care will be referred to appropriate specialist programs.

Eating Disorder — FAQs

Yes. With the right treatment, full recovery from an eating disorder is absolutely possible. Early intervention improves outcomes, but recovery is possible at any stage.

No. Eating disorders occur across all body sizes and weights. Bulimia, binge eating disorder, and ARFID often occur in people of average or above-average weight. The diagnosis is based on behavior and psychological symptoms, not weight.

Yes. We treat teenagers with eating disorders and regularly incorporate parents in treatment, tailoring the level of family involvement to what the teen and family need.

If weight restoration is a clinical necessity, we will discuss this openly and collaboratively. Our focus is always on overall health and wellbeing — not on a specific weight target.
