Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Group Therapy LA (“we,” “us” or “our”) collects, uses and protects information when you visit grouptherapyla.com or contact us through it. It also explains the choices you have.

This policy and your health information

This policy covers our website. Once you begin care with us, the health information in your clinical record is protected by federal law (HIPAA) and by the laws of the state where you receive care, and how we use and share it is described in our Notice of Privacy Practices. We provide that notice when you begin care, and you can request a copy at any time by contacting us.

Please don’t include detailed health information in our website forms or in email. Our forms are for arranging your free consultation. A brief note about what you’re looking for is plenty; you can share anything more personal during the consultation itself, which is confidential.

Information we collect

Information you give us

When you fill out our Contact or Schedule a Consultation form, we collect the details you enter, which may include:

    • Your name, email address and phone number
    • The state or location you’re contacting us from
    • The service you’re interested in, and any therapist you’d like to work with
    • Your message

If you reach a form from a therapist’s profile page, that therapist’s name is filled in for you so we know who you were interested in. We also receive whatever you share when you email or call us.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, ours automatically receives some technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the site that referred you and the date and time of your visit. Some of this is collected through cookies and similar technologies, described below.

How we use information

    • To reply to your inquiry and arrange your free consultation
    • To match you with a suitable therapist and service
    • To operate, maintain and secure our website, including preventing spam and abuse
    • To understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it
    • To comply with our legal and professional obligations

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Cookies and the services we use

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run our website. Some of them set cookies or collect technical information about your visit on our behalf:

    • Google Analytics helps us understand how many people visit and which pages are useful. It uses cookies and collects information such as your approximate location, device and pages viewed. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
    • Hotjar records how visitors use our pages, such as clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, so we can see where the site is confusing and make it easier to use. Our forms are set so that Hotjar does not record anything you type into them.
    • GoDaddy hosts our website and helps protect it against attacks. Like any web host, it processes technical information such as your IP address to deliver pages to you.
    • Google Fonts supplies the typefaces on our site. They load from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address.
    • Psychology Today supplies the verification badge on our Contact page. It loads from Psychology Today’s servers, which receive your IP address.

To count how often our articles are read, our site briefly stores a scrambled (one-way hashed) version of your IP address for 24 hours, so a single visitor isn’t counted twice. It can’t be turned back into your IP address and is deleted automatically.

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking them won’t stop you from using our site or contacting us.

Do Not Track

Some browsers can send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no common standard for how websites should respond to it, and our website does not currently change its behavior when it receives one. The analytics services listed above may collect information about your online activity over time and across different websites.

How we share information

We share information only as needed to run our practice and our website:

    • With the service providers described above, who may use it only to provide their services to us
    • When required by law, such as in response to a valid court order
    • To protect the safety of you or others, or the rights and security of our practice
    • If our practice is reorganized or transferred, in which case this policy continues to apply

How long we keep information

We keep form submissions and correspondence for as long as needed to respond to you and to keep reasonable records of our communications, and then delete them. If you become a client, your information becomes part of your clinical record, which we are required by law to keep for a set period. Analytics data is kept for the periods set in those services.

How we protect information

Our website uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and we take reasonable measures to protect the information you send us. No website or email system is completely secure, however, which is one reason we ask you not to send detailed health information through our forms or by email.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to tell you what information we hold from your website inquiries, to correct it, or to delete it, by emailing info@grouptherapyla.com. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request. We will not treat you differently for making one.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under your state’s or country’s laws. We will honor those rights as the applicable law requires. California residents may also ask whether we have shared personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We have not.

Rights relating to your clinical record are described in our Notice of Privacy Practices.

Children

Our website is intended for adults. We offer therapy for children and teens, and a parent or guardian should contact us on their behalf. We do not knowingly collect information online from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Visitors outside the United States

We are based in the United States, and information you send us is processed and stored here. If you contact us from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and handled in the United States.

Links to other websites

Our site links to other websites, including our sister practice, Group Therapy NY, and our social media pages. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. If we make significant changes, we will make that clear on our website.
