Dr. Kearney Visser

Dr. Kearney Visser is a native to Santa Monica, California and has been licensed and in private practice since 2010. Dr. Visser has been working in the field with children, families, and couples for over 15 years and has dedicated her educational and professional career to helping children and families grow together. Dr. Kearney Visser graduated from the University of California, San Diego; Revelle College with a BA in psychology where she also played college volleyball. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. from Alliant International University; Scripps Ranch in the child/family track.

Dr. Visser specializes in treating children, adolescents, young adults and their families and tackles a multitude of challenges including behavioral issues, developmental delays, anxiety, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, disordered eating, self-esteem/body image, sports performance, adjustment to divorce and new family composition. She also specializes in couples therapy and works with couples who are neurodiverse. Dr. Kearney Visser brings her expertise to her clients in a warm and welcoming environment, meeting the needs of each unique client through myriad methods including cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, solution-focused therapy, as well as music, movement, and art therapy. Dr. Kearney Visser realizes the importance of including the families and does so in family and parent sessions, which facilitate the parents’ ability to support their children.

Clinical Experience and Training

  • UCLA Office of Students with Disabilities, Learning Disorder and Psychological Specialist, Post-Doctoral Fellowship: Duties include providing learning disorder, ADHD, and psychological screenings and providing subsequent accommodations to help students be successful in the classroom setting and help improve overall global functioning. The learning disorder and psychological specialist is also responsible for conducting social skills, ADHD, and bipolar groups.
  • Children's Hospital-Chadwick Center: The Chadwick Center for Children and Families at Rady's Children's Hospital offers a variety of programs that provide for the prevention, identification, treatment and rehabilitation of neglected, sexually and physically abused children and women impacted by domestic violence. Multiple medical, social and therapeutic approaches are utilized, specifically trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy with special focus on evidentiary, prevention and specialized support programs for victims and witnesses to trauma. Psychological Assistants conduct psychological evaluations to determine parental fitness for the court and other referral questions, and provide diagnosis and treatment for individuals, couples, families, and children, group therapy, and specialized trainings

  • San Diego State University, Center for Eating and Weight Disorder (CEWD), SDSU/UCSD Doctoral Training Facility, Denise Wilfley, Ph.D.: Volunteer research assistant and data analyst for the lead data analyst of the CEWD. Responsibilities included data analysis of eating disorder surveys for the current research, scanning, data entry, data verification and compiling and tracking teleform surveys.
