Children have a natural state of wonder and fun. They love to laugh, see new things, they like to be self-sufficient and will try again and again to walk and will not get mad at themselves for falling again and again as they learn new skills. They cry easily when they are upset.
You were once a child with all of these skills: the ability to feel and express a full range of emotions and move on. You were born resilient, with a healthy sense of exploration, discovery, and fun. If you find that as an adult you are mostly surviving rather than thriving, remember that you don’t have to learn how to be a new type of person, you simply need to get in touch with the person you were born to be. The qualities that make life amazing are already within you, and it can be one of life’s greatest joys to continue to re-discover who you really are. What can you do today that will make you thrive (and not just survive?) The goal is to have a full life, not just one that we get through. Think like a child and you will begin to find joy in everything around you.
